Niall Whelan - Tulip Study

The Club will run the following league competitions for the 2017/2018 season:

Tom Conniffe - Surprise

Monochrome

The monochrome (traditionally called black and white) league permits print images that contain black, white or a single overall tone. Selective colouring of the image is not permitted.
The Monochrome League will run over 6 rounds, 5 of which occur during the regular season, and the club exhibition counting as the final (6th) round. Members are allowed to enter 2 images in each round.
Note that scores for the final (i.e. exhibition) round will count for double.
Please also see the section related to Themes below to understand how themes will work for this season's POTY competitions.

Colour

The colour print league permits print images in colour including selectively coloured monochrome images.
The Colour League will run over 6 rounds, 5 of which occur during the regular season, and the club exhibition counting as the final (6th) round. Members are allowed to enter 2 images in each round.

Please also see the section related to Themes below to understand how themes will work for this season's POTY competitions.

Competition themes

Turlough OReilly - Men At Work

This season, three of the league rounds will have an optional theme. Any photographer can choose to enter an additional image in the theme – the entry will be highlighted on the form. This means that a photographer entering a themed image, can enter 7 images ( with the best 6 scores counting for that league round). The themes are listed in the table opposite.

Round   1 Optional Theme: Shapes
Round   3 Optional Theme: Solitude
Round   5 Optional Theme: Texture

Internal League scoring

Michael Linehan - Diving Gull

On each competition judging night the judge will award marks out of 50. For the purposes of scoring the league, points will be allocated based on the placing of each entry in that month’s competition. This is done according to the table below (a process referred to as Normalisation):
Internal league points (normalised) will be allocated on the placing of each entry, see table above.
Joint placing will be allowed from 2nd place down. E.g. if two images are placed 2nd then both will get 19 points normalised. Also, in this case the next normalised score will still be 18.
All entries after 10th place will be awarded 11 points normalised
Results will be published by the Competition Secretary.

League Awards

Gerry Kerr - Hoi An lady

Trophies and medals are awarded in each of the ‘Novice’, ‘Intermediate’ & ‘Advanced’ grades as follows:

Monochrome   Photographer of the Year
Gold medal

League of 6 rounds (including exhibition)

Colour   Photographer of the Year
Gold medal

Digital   Photographer of the Year
Gold medal

Photographer   of the year
Trophy + Gold medal

Best   cumulative score across three leagues above. (Add final score from Colour,   Mono and DPI)

Changes to number of League medals awarded

Niall  Whelan - Dark Beauty

In each of the leagues: Where no more than four people compete, medals will only be awarded to 1st and 2nd place and a certificate for third.
Where no more than three people compete, a medal will be awarded to first place and a certificate for the other places.
It is deemed unlikely that this situation will arise very often as most members in each grade enter at least one league competition, they may then “drop out” for various reasons but they have competed in the league.
