Photography Course

Celbridge Camera Club are running a Photography Course during January and February for new members and also anyone outside of the club that wishes to learn Photography. The course is priced at €50 for non members.

The course will consist of workshops on the 17th and 31st of January 2026 as well as a series of weekly online zoom sessions on Jan 20th, Jan 27th, Feb 3rd, Feb 10th and Feb 17th.

The photography Course is aimed at those people who have recently decided to explore photography as a hobby and also for those who feel they might need to revise or update their skills. While the course will be aimed at those people who have SLR cameras it is not necessary to own a camera to take part. Everyone now has access to the ‘camera in your pocket’ a mobile phone camera.

The course will primarily focus on the skill and creative process of taking great and exciting images. You don’t need a good camera to do that but you do need an ’eye’ and some basic composition skills to move up a grade from snapshot images.

The course is run over a number of weeks and starts with a face to face session (on a Saturday Morning) where we explore cameras and the technical side of photography, equipment and general tips. You will be expected to bring along your camera with you so can begin to understand the camera as an optical tool and capturing device. Best menu settings will be suggested as well as exploring all the buttons and settings etc. At the end of the session your confidence in using your camera will have advanced.

Mostly, the course will be a series of online Zoom Calls – lasting about an hour where we will explore such topics as:-

Exposure, how to take pictures in all sorts of lighting conditions.

Understanding light and how to use light to create dramatic images.

Composition – making your images look great and inviting to look at.

Studio Light – taking portraits and how to control the lighting and pose positions

Still Life – how to create great images on your kitchen table

Mood Lighting – creating mood and atmosphere in your images

Processing your digital images – Lightroom, photoshop, Affinity and other processing software will be explored. Workflows suggested and some fears and technical barriers overcome for beginners.

There will, of course ample opportunities for questions and further exploration of items as participants require.

There will also be a second workshop – morning outing (locally) where participants will be paired up with experience photographers for one to one mentoring in a live situation.

If you choose to become a member of Celbridge Camera you can advance further with your skills as the camera club also provide ongoing training and education sessions for their members.
